Kinderhotel in Austria: Ballunspitze

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

Kinderhotel with fantastic facilities for kids and biking routes. Austria (Tyrol).

Final verdict: Highly Recommended

The it factor:

It is a kids (and parent) paradise. Indoor and outdoor playgrounds, animations for kids, indoor and outdoor pools, friendly staff, mini go-karts, playrooms and great skiing / hiking and biking areas around. We have been at this hotel 3 times and it has always exceeded our expectations.

The fun factor:

The hotel has 2 in-door play areas. One is supervised for smaller kids, with climbing areas and toys. You can leave the kids there and enjoy some me-time or you can just stay there and watch them play.

The other one is unsupervised, with mini go-carts, bobbi cars, mechanical horses and various games. Our toddlers loved both areas but they were specifically in love with go-carting.

Every little guest gets their own bath robe and slippers they can use in an in-door pools area with a swimming pool, toddler pool and slides. Our little one had a blast. There is also an outdoor infinity pool but with all the activities available, we didnt have a chance to try it!

There are also various animations for different age groups. T-shirt painting, night torch walks, theatre shows, cooking, games, competitions cinemas with popcorn, discos and more. Every day there are different activities all throughout the day. Some of them you can do together as a family and some are supervised, so you can leave the kids and enjoy a nice massage at the spa (which we did :) or a free yoga, pilates or meditiation class.

In the summer season, you can enjoy beautiful nature around. The walks can be a bit boring for kids as there is not much to do on the way other than enjoying a beautiful nature. I recommend renting an e-bike from a local sports shop and cycling to the Kopsee lake with a dam and a restaurant with delicious ice-cream and a fun playground. The views were stunning and kids had a lot of fun!

The comfort factor:

Rooms are quite comfortable and down to earth. There are different types available - many consist of more than one room, so you dont have to sleep in the same room with your kids. The feel is a bit dated, but it fits with the overall feel of the Tyrolian area.

You have everything available for kids - changing stations, diaper bins, bathrobes, strollers, bottles. There is also a small toy shop.

The staff is absolutely amazing. Approachable and always willing to help.

What I also like is the flexibility of booking. Many of the kinderhotels are quite strict on check-in and check-out

The food factor:

Ballunspitze food

Ballunspitze is an all inclusive hotel - breakfast, lunch, affternoon snack and dinner. And there is a lot of food choices! For adults, kids and babies - including bottles, powdered milk and baby food.

For dinner there is always a kids buffet as well as a-la-carte selection for adults with c. 3 options. And every day there are also some apperitifes and salads.

The tase is great but not excellent.

The value for money factor:

This hotel often has a holiday package with 1 night extra for free. We found that 4 nights for the price of 3 offers the best value. The price includes 4 meals a day, unlimited soft drinks, access to all facilities, animations and daycare.

What I really like about this hotel is that you can book any number of days any time - this is not a typical practice (there is often a minimum 7 nights stay) that makes a stay in a kinderhotel more affordable.
