The fun factor

Atzmännig is the perfect spot for family adventures, with everything in one place. Situated at 1,200 meters and part of the Prealps mountain range, around 44 km from Zurich.

You can choose to stay near the bottom chairlift station and enjoy activities that don’t require any lifts—like the rope park, leisure park, playground, trampoline, and a restaurant. Or, hop on the chairlift and try out the summer mountain slide or take on a family-friendly hike.

.

We’ve visited a few times, each time trying different adventures.

Here are our top 5 Fun Factors of Atzmännig

1. Hike Down with House Sparrow Manni - free of charge

Our favorite part of Atzmännig is the 2.7 km downhill hike, where House Sparrow Manni (Spatz Manni) takes you on a themed adventure. To start the hike, you’ll need to take the chairlift up to the top station. Along the trail, you’ll find 8 fun activity stations that bring Manni’s story to life. You can swing with a view, play music, transport pine cones with a mini lift, balance on a wobbling bridge, squeeze through brushes, and even battle it out for the throne!

2. Solve Quizzes and Win a Prize - free of charge

There’s also a quiz challenge along the way. Pick up a free activity card from the chairlift ticket office and answer the questions at each station. Keep in mind, the quizzes are in German, so the Google Translate app might come in handy! If you answer all the questions correctly and upload a photo of yourself on the throne while tagging Atzmännig, you’ll be entered into a competition for a chance to win a free stay at the pods!

3. Hit the leisure park - paid

Just next to the parking lot and the bottom chairlift station, there’s a small leisure park with 14 attractions, perfect for kids and families. Some of the highlights include:

  • Tower Crane

  • Nautical Jet (a water jump in a boat, for kids 10 and up)

  • Cableway (fly above visitors at 8 meters high, from age 8)

  • Mini-Cars (for ages 3–10)

  • Ship Pond with remotely controlled boats

  • Mechanical Bull Riding (for ages 8 and up)

  • Comet Swing

  • Trampolines and Bunny Trampolines

  • Sliding Tower: for ages 6 and up (from 2 years if accompanied by an adult)

Each attraction is paid for separately, with prices ranging from 1 CHF to 3 CHF per ride - see more here. There’s a machine to change money and a cash point available if you need to withdraw cash.

There is also a nice playground available free of charge with swings, slides and 2 carousels (1 CHF per ride).

4. Visit the goats (free of charge)

You can check out a small fenced area with adorable goats that kids can enter and pet. It’s a perfect spot to relax and take a break from all the excitement. We found it a great way to unwind and enjoy some calm moments amidst the adventure!

5. Slide down a mountain

There’s a 700-meter-long summer slide with 17 turns and a 126-meter vertical drop—super fun for kids and adults alike! Children aged 3 to 8 must ride with someone at least 12 years old, while those 8 and over can enjoy the thrill solo. It’s an exciting adventure for everyone!

5. Go climbing (paid)

Set in the heart of the forest, less than a 5-minute walk from the leisure park, there’s an exciting rope park! It offers 8 courses for adults and 3 parcours for kids aged 4 to 8. Surrounded by trees, it's the perfect spot for a fun adventure in nature while the little ones get to enjoy their own mini-challenges.

The food factor

Just next to the first adventure station (and the top chairlift station), about halfway through the hike, and near the leisure park there are barbecue and picnic spots with wood provided. It’s our favorite way to enjoy lunch during the hike—weather permitting, of course! A tip: we recommend the first barbecue spot offers a better view and even has a fun play structure to keep the kids entertained while you relax.

There are also two restaurants if you prefer dining in. The first one, Bergrestaurant Atzmännig/Harz, is just 5 minutes into the hike. It offers à la carte options, a kids' menu, and a beautiful view, though it doesn’t have a play area for children. The second restaurant, Sportbahnen Atzmännig, is located right next to the leisure park. It features a buffet-style setup and a nice terrace, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure.

There are more restaurant options in the area, easily reachable by a short walk or drive - see here.

The comfort factor

For those looking to extend their stay, Atzmännig offers glamping pods, providing a cozy and adventurous overnight option for families wanting to experience the mountain by night. We tried it out and loved it! The pods are warm and cozy, though the bathroom is separate. At night, nearby restaurants are closed, but there’s a barbecue on-site.

Just note—there are no dishes provided. You can either opt for a barbecue or breakfast kit from Atzmännig, which includes plates, forks, knives, cups, and food, or if you bring your own food, be sure to pack your own dishes too.

The fitness factor

The hike is easy, covering only 2.7 km. It is not stroller friendly as there are sections that are steep and with roots sticking out .

It involves around 369 meters of elevation change. You can follow the trail downhill, as described here, or if you're looking for a bit more of a challenge, you can do it in reverse and tackle the climb with your family.
