The fun factor
Madrisa is a mountain adventure park—and it’s also known as one of the most family-friendly mountains in Switzerland.
You’ll need to take a gondola to reach the fun, but once you’re up there, it’s all waiting for you: an alpine playground, themed hike, mini-zoo, a lake with a barefoot path, and even the option to stay overnight in a tree house, tepee or a suite under the stars.
We’ve visited twice—once just for the day, and once for an overnight stay—and can definitely recommend it for families looking for a mix of nature, play, and a bit of magic.
Here are our top 4 Fun Factors of Madrisa Adventures

Hit the Alpine Mega-Playground
At the top, you’ll find a huge alpine playground with water play, marble-rolling stations (marbles available at the self-service restaurant), a giant slide, zip line, a sandpit for little kids, and even a hidden cave to explore. You could easily spend half a day here—we did once while staying in the tree house—but on hikes, we usually save it for the end so the kids still have energy for the trail.
There’s also a small animal park with goats, ducks, bunnies, and more. You can go into the goat pen and pet them—they’re very friendly.
2. Embark on a treasure hunt
If you want more, there’s the “Madrisa Gang” treasure hunt. You can buy a map at the self-service restaurant just next to the top gondola station and visit five spots around the playground where cute animals are hiding. At each spot, you can read their stories and collect a stamp—if you find them all, you can pick up a small prize at the restaurant.
3. Go barefoot around the lake
Just a short climb up from the gondola and the mega playground, there’s another restaurant by a small lake with a trampoline. You can’t swim in it, but a barefoot path winds around the lake—part through the water, part along the shore. Tip: bring a change of clothes—our daughter fell once, and we had to dry everything in the sun, but luckily it dried quickly.
4. Go on a themed hike
From the playground, there’s a themed hike of about 3 km to the “Mässplatte” viewpoint and back, called Klara on the Alp, following the adventures of cow Klara. You can pick up a free booklet from the letterbox by the playground entrance, which has tasks to do along the way—just bring a pencil, as some activities require writing. Some things, like playing giant tic-tac-toe at the end of the hike, can be done without the booklet.
There’s also a small stream and a mini waterfall with a barbecue station along the way. Tip: bring barbecue supplies and a towel—it’s a nice spot for a break while the kids play in the water.
5. Ride a scooter
For kids aged 6 and up, there’s also an 8.5 km scooter ride from the Madrisa mountain station down to Saas-Alp. The scooters can be returned at the community hall, which is signposted. We haven’t tried it yet, as our child is still too young—but it’s something to look forward to.
The fitness factor
The area around the playground is stroller-friendly. The hike itself is easy, with some ups and downs (82 m elevation change), but it’s not suitable for strollers.

You can go there and back on an easy path, or take the round route, which goes over slightly more challenging terrain.
We recommend it for kids who have some hiking experience. There are no big drop-offs, so it feels safe for children to walk on their own.
The views factor
The views are, of course, stunning. The area is very green, with mountain peaks visible in the distance, and the small river and mini waterfall add to the charm. We were really impressed.
The food factor
There are three options:
Madrisa -Alp - Self-service restaurant right by the top gondola station and the mega playground.
Bergrestaurant Madrisa-Holf – A table-served restaurant, a short walk up from the gondola station, just next to the lake with the barefoot path and a trampoline
Picnic - You can bring your own food and eat at the tables around the playground. There are nice barbecue spots at the playground and along the hiking way with wood provided—just bring your own food. On busy days, there’s usually a fire going; on quieter days, remember to bring a firestarter.
The comfort factor
There is also an option to stay overnight - which we have already checked out. our favourite was a tree house - there is an option for 4 or 6 people - with comfortable beds and electricity. Bathrooms are separate.
There are also “Star Suites,” which are for two people only, as well as other accommodation options you can check out here.
