The fun factor

Engstligenalp is a high-altitude alpine plateau located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, near the town of Adelboden. Situated at an elevation of about 2,000 meters above sea level, it is one of the largest and most scenic plateaus in the Swiss Alps.

Engstligenalp is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, including the majestic Engstligen Falls, the second-longest waterfalls in Switzerland. Although the Globi Engstligenalp hikes do not pass directly by the waterfall, you can still enjoy stunning views of it from both the bottom and top gondola stations, as well as during the gondola ride.

Engstligenalp Globi Erlebniswelt is also home to the Globi Engstligenalp trails—fun-filled hikes and two Globi houses, designed with engaging activities for kids, all set against the backdrop of stunning alpine scenery. There are several themed trails to explore:

  • Globi Alpweg: A 3.0 km trail where you'll help Globi find his missing animal and visit local family-run farm shops. This trail is stroller-friendly.

  • Globi Bergweg: A 4.5 km mountain trail with a mission to discover Globi’s secret word. This trail is not suitable for strollers.

  • Globi Kristallweg: A 4.5 km themed trail where you'll search for crystals along the way. This trail is stroller-friendly.

  • Globi Rundweg: A 4.5 km walk around the plateau, offering stunning views and easy terrain. This trail is stroller-friendly.

To make the most of your visit, we've created a combined 4.9 km hike that incorporates elements from each of these trails, offering a unique and engaging adventure for families.

  • Help Globi find his missing animal on the Globi Alpweg.

  • Discover Globi's secret word on the Globi Bergweg.

  • Search for hidden crystals on the Globi Kristallweg.

  • Enjoy panoramic views on the Globi Rundweg.

Here are our top 6 Fun Factors of Engstligenalp Globi Erlebniswelt

1. Explore Globi’s Alpine world

Globi is one of the most famous cartoon characters in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, often referred to as the "Swiss Mickey Mouse." This hike brilliantly incorporates Globi into the experience, with a charming story of Globi moving to the mountains for the summer to help out a farmer. We really appreciate how this hike themed around Globi is balanced, offering plenty of fun activities and opportunities to meet him or discover his stories, whilst remaining quite tasteful. It isn’t overloaded with playgrounds, allowing you to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings while the kids engage with nature and Globi’s world in a meaningful way.

Pick up a free Engstligenalp Globi Erlebniswelt brochure from the gondola station for an overview of all the quests (in German only). If you want to join the crystal quest, you’ll need to purchase a Kristallpass for an additional 5 CHF.

Plus, you can also buy Globi merchandise at the gondola station or restaurants, and on selected days and times, you can even ride a special Globi gondola and meet him at the mountain, adding an extra touch of magic to your day.

2. Alpweg: Explore Globi's house and help him find the missing animal

All Globi trails, including our custom-made trail that combines multiple adventures into one, begin at the top of the gondola station. As soon as you step out of the gondola, you're greeted by breathtaking views and the first Globi house. Here, you can explore the house or dive right into the first quest. Globi has lost one animal, and he needs your help to figure out which one it is. Open your book to page 6 and ask your kids to color in all the animals they see in the barn—the one left uncolored will be the missing animal Globi needs.

Tip: There’s a nice table and bench to do this activity, but crayons are not provided, so be sure to bring your own if you want to complete it on the spot.

Plus, right next to this house, there's a viewpoint offering amazing views of the stunning Engstligen Falls—a sight you won’t want to miss!

3. Bergweg: Follow the mountain trail and find the missing word in the milk cans

From there, you can follow the Globi Bergweg trail. Your mission: help Globi find a missing word from his book by solving quizzes hidden in milk cans along the way.

After a short walk, you'll come across the first milk can. Inside, you'll find questions—each correct answer reveals a letter of the word. If you discover the missing word, you’ll earn a sticker at the Globi Stübli. The brochure and quizzes are in German, but with a translation app, this can be easily managed.

This section takes you along an easy mountain trail that's safe with no drop-offs, though there are some rocky areas, making it better suited for kids who are confident walkers. It's not suitable for strollers. Check out here how to make it into a stroller friendly option.

4.  Bergweg: Fun & picnic at the mountain Globi house

The Bergweg trail ends at the second Globi house, where kids can play and explore Globi’s books. Keep in mind, there’s no restaurant or picnic facilities here, but the surrounding green fields offer a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy nature. Consider bringing a picnic blanket and your own food and drinks to relax and refresh while the kids have fun.

4. Kristalweg: Look for hidden gems

A short walk from where the Bergweg ends, the Kristallweg begins. For this quest, you'll need to purchase a Kristallpass at the gondola station for 5 CHF. Each time you spot a purple disk with Globi's face on the ground, there's a hidden puncher nearby, often tucked behind some stones. Use it to punch your Kristallpass, and at the end, you'll earn a real crystal as a prize! You can pick it up at the bottom gondola station.

We loved this twist on the traditional punching activity—our kids were thrilled every time they discovered a puncher hidden among the stones and we found this quest particularly fun and engaging.

5. Have fun in nature

In addition to the breathtaking views, along the way there are plenty of natural play areas that add to the adventure. Kids will love climbing on the large stones scattered along the trail—just be sure to supervise them closely and encourage them to stay safe while exploring.

The trail also winds past several river creeks, which create wonderful natural playgrounds. These shallow streams are perfect for kids to kick off their shoes and socks, wade into the cool water, and explore the natural surroundings up close.

6. Wrap up your day with a treat and play

Last stop: a well-deserved break at the restaurant with a playground. Just a short walk from the top gondola station, you'll find Berghotel—a lovely spot to grab a meal or a drink while the kids enjoy the playground. You can also pick up some Globi merchandise here.

For us, it’s the ideal way to wrap up the day, and we’re always amazed at how the kids suddenly find a burst of energy—no matter how tired they were—when they see the trampoline waiting for them...

The fitness factor

The Engstligenalp Globi Erlebniswelt hike is 4.9 km in total, with 100 meters ascent / descent.

The Bergweg (green) path is not stroller-friendly. However, the Kristallweg (purple) section, including access from the gondola, is suitable for strollers. If you're bringing a stroller, you can either do the Kristallweg as a round-trip or combine it with the Rundwanderweg (yellow) for a varied experience.

The Kristallweg and Rundweg follow a flat dirt road that’s easy for both little legs and strollers. Along the way, you’ll likely encounter some local residents—cows. They’re usually calm and might give you a curious look, but it’s important to walk with caution and stay safe around them.

The Bergweg follows a mountain trail that is generally easy and safe, with no drop-offs. However, it features some narrow sections and areas with large stones. We recommend this trail for confident hikers, ideally children aged 4 or 5 and up, or for younger kids who can be carried in a backpack.

The views factor

The views along this trail are absolutely breathtaking—vast plateaus covered in green grass and wildflowers, with snow-capped mountains in the distance and crystal-clear river creeks winding through the landscape. It's truly one of the most stunning areas we’ve ever seen.

The food factor

There are two restaurants in the area, each offering something special. The Raclette Hut is perfect for those craving raclette year-round. We have not tried it but it has excellent reviews on Google. Berghotel, on the other hand, offers a wider menu and a playground with a trampoline, making it great for families.

Regular events with tables and sausage stands also pop up—check the calendar for details.

While there aren’t dedicated picnic tables, there are plenty of grassy spots ideal for a picnic. If that’s your preference, be sure to bring a blanket and enjoy the scenery.
